The March Violets are a goth band from Leeds, Great Britain. Formed in 1981, they were one of the four famous drum machine bands in Leeds and shared the same label as [a83146] at the beginning of their career.
With their unique blend of dark and atmospheric sound, The March Violets quickly gained recognition within the gothic music scene. Their haunting melodies and powerful lyrics captivate audiences worldwide.

New Wave / Post Punk

Includes indie chart-toppers Snake Dance, Deep and Walk into the Sun 7" versions. Twenty-two tracks - all their '80's repertoire plus three highlights from this century. From Leeds, friends and label-mates of Sisters of Mercy, they issued six singles and a compilation. The March Violets came out of Leeds in the early 80's. Releasing six singles, they were a constant presence in the UK indie charts, hitting the top two spots with Snake Dance, Deep and number one with Walk Into The Sun. They never got around to recording an album - their only '80's long-players, Natural History in the UK and Electric Shades in the USA, were compilations. Eventually they signed to a major label and were groomed for a USA breakthrough, performing in the 1987 'Some Kind of Wonderful' movie. However they were asked to make too many compromises and eventually split up.
